Go support Swedens best label: Service!

We have been talking about Service here earlier since it's the home of for example the Embassy. They released their new single today called Some indulgence. It's smashing of course. At the same time the label started their new mp3 service where you can download their stunning catalog of modern and swedish indiepop. Jens Lekman can be your new best friend, go dancing with Tough Alliance or go swimming to the sound of Erik de Vahl.
The small label Popkonst mailed me and wanted to be here so check them out. I would say that their bands are top notch but sadly their website is in Swedish. Try to mail info@popkonst.com and I'm sure thay can help you to order something from their cave of treasures.
There will soon be mp3s here again but at the moment I'm on the road in the US and feel pretty lost. It will work out in a coupple of weeks.

We Say Yes to USA!

Say yes to Sweden takes a quick brake since I´m going to San Diego for a while. This week I have to spend my time at different trains and boats and planes but we will soon be back again, relocated to the country the swedes call Amerikas förenta stater. See you there! In the meantime, discover all the great bands that played in Emmaboda on the kind of famous Swedish indiefestival there. You should have joined us because we had a great time. Most of the bands have mp3s on their websites. Especially check out The Consequences, The Mexicos, Rough Bunnies, Jens Lekman and Vapnet who all were fantastic.

It's time to give CDOASS a fair resort

Hello again. The rain is pouring down over Sweden and the kids dance to post-punk like there's no tomorrow. Since we haven't received any postcards from the Rapture in ages it's great that we have a Swedish runner up in the genre we like to call discoindie or pistoldisco. CDOASS have been around for a long while now and finally they released an album, "Extra Fingers", backed up by the producer Christian Falk that has made some boring house and industry before he met these fine young cannibals. A marriage made in heaven. The best song is "A fair resort". Do the hustle.

Lo-fi-fnk are crown jewels of the swedish duo trend

As I told you earlier it's cool with duos. One of my favorite ones at the moment are two guys that likes to call themselves Lo-Fi-Fnk. They have released a funkish ep which sounds like a modern Prince on champagne. Their label La vida locash are hosting exciting label nights and probably have a lot of aces up their sleeve. We bring you A.D.T! A fox behind the ear from these boys.

A.D.T

Blip blop a la Dibaba

Believe it or not but the Swedes can also make smashing electronic music a la Kompakt. Dibaba from Malmö released a fabolous album called "Songs for food lives" a while ago perfect for dancing, romancing or putting up the thing called midsommarstång which you can se on the picture to the left. Tiga says it´s great and we all know Tiga has good taste. Say yes to these 2 smash hits and check Dibabas site for more info, samples and so on.

I hope heaven waits for ordinary people

You're the one

2 quartets in 1: Bear Quartet and Bad Cash Quartet

Recently a tribute cd to Bear Quartet was released in the land of many bears. You´ll hear more on them later right here so at this time you just have to understand that they are one of Swedens best indie band though their not that famous outside of our tiny and cold country. That's bad of course so start praising them! One of their finest moments, Put me back together, are covered by a couple of young gentlemen from Göteborg called Bad Cash Quartet. The singer used to be very drunk at my old favourite hangout in the town and then their last album Midnight Prayer turned out to be a masterpiece of music for a modern swede like me. A little bit like Bruce Springsteen teamed up with Built to Spill. As you can see on the picture it was probably during one of these wild nights that he came up with the name of the band since there's five of them. Nowadays it's more popular with duos like le Sport in Sweden.

Night music for elephants

In Sweden we have a guy named Viktor Sjöberg. Nice name, great music. He´s in a band called Sonores and he has a blog named Elefanten where you can read things and download a brilliant mix. Anyway, as a member of Sonores he makes mostly a little bit jazzy and beautiful electronic music perfect for walking on a dark street in Stockholm, Uddevalla, Chicago or Skövde. An album is coming out soon, check their website for more info and songs, but we bring you the first track from their ep, You wish!

This flower looks like a star, not in coma though

While waiting to upload the Lovekevins songs I discovered Stars in Coma. It seems to be a one man band with a guy named André. Anyway, now I can´t stop listening to the first song from his cd-r and the other ones are also Swedish summer indie of the finest kind.
If I could describe

Lovekevins are blaming the english

Roses are red and violets are blue. Honey is sweet but not as sweet as the great Lovekevins who released the ep "Blame the english" a kind of long while ago. All the songs are great and they sometimes play live with only drums, trumpets and a small taperecorder with everything else. In Sweden that´s considered to be cool. Very cool. You can buy their ep and a lot of other glorious things at Songs I wish I had written. Listen to the soft dry voice of the guy to the left now and enjoy the other blokes hornmagic. You have no time to loose.

Happy Happy

Blame the english

Sometimes the picture is better than the music

This band used to be a really bad hip-hop act but turned into a sometimes but not always good popband. I like this song (or at least the intro) even though they´re nagging too much about Chrissie B and the lyrics are pretty bad. You can listen to some more songs here. They´re not good though. I listened to the song once more now. I don´t like it, terrible lyrics.

The Swedish Embassy is a great embassy

One of my absolute favorite Swedish bands call themselves The Embassy. They´ve accomplished a handful of fantastic singles and a great album, all released on Service. You can order all their things including clothes from there. A new single called "some indulgence", already a big hype in Sweden, will be released at the end of August. Embassy recently played in Stockholm where they arrived in a boat from their hometown Gothenburg/Göteborg. I used to live there too. It´s a great city with strong winds and the 481 000 inhabitants tells you funny jokes. However, it´s a pleasure to present 2 mp3s from your new favourite band.

It never entered my mind (fantastic normal version)

The late great Montt Mardié

The first actual post is about smashing music in the vein of the Embassy (swedens best band) and Vapnet (the second best band of Sweden at the moment). According to me Montt Mardié do fantastic electropopish music. They´ve got something going. They also played at one of Stockholms best summer clubs, Patsy at Trädgården, a couple of weeks ago. I couldn´t come but smart people say it was great. Their best song is called "Highschool Drama" . Check them out and download the songs at the Montt Mardié digital HQ right here.

By the way, the picture is from Omberg, the highest mountain of Östergötland (pronounced: Eusteurgeutland).

Welcome to Sweden, the land of the midnight sun.

You´ve probably been told to say yes to things before but come on, this is the easiest thing to say yes to. Sweden! The little country in the north with a huge population of bears but a small population of actual people. The thing is that the people who actually lives in this place is great at about four things; crying in the rain, inventing dynamite, dressing exquisite and making the most beautiful music in the world. Simple as that. This is a new and spectacular blog about mostly Swedish music but sometimes other things, a gift to you from Björn which naturally means bear in english. With all my swedish heart, welcome!
